Mandai North Crematorium is designed as a tranquil and dignified green sanctuary that enhances cremation capacity while providing a healing environment for the bereaved. Despite its limited site area and proximity to the main road, layered greenery, hanging gardens, sunken gardens, and dappled light create a sense of calm and enclosure from arrival through to the final farewell.

The Ash Scattering Garden forms the heart of the landscape, featuring a sensitive yet colourful planting palette of native species that softens the solemn setting and supports local biodiversity. A mini plaza provides a gathering space before and after ceremonies, while landscaped berms introduce privacy and sculptural landform. A stormwater retention pond is integrated as part of the site’s sustainable water management strategy, harvesting runoff while supporting wildfile, while also offering aesthetic and recreational value to the site.

Urban greening strategies extend throughout the building, from floral vine planting framing the basement arrival ramp to sunken gardens at Basement 1 and hanging greenery and green roofs at Level 2. Clerestory windows allow layered planting to frame the interior of the Service Halls, creating a serene natural backdrop for remembrance and reflection.
